This past Friday, Lahainaluna and Iolani advanced to the First Hawaiian Bank HHSAA D1 Football State Championship Game.
Lahainaluna’s season stays perfect at 7-0 after they capitalized on seven interceptions to move past a previously undefeated Konawaena team, 30-7. Lahainaluna scored first with a 20-yard TD run from Kuola Watson. Konawaena answered quickly on their first drive, marching down the field and scoring a 2-yard run from Kawelu Kaiawe. The critical Konawaena fumble on their second drive gave Lahainaluna the lead back and the momentum that they needed to finish off the game.
The Iolani vs Aiea game that followed featured the top rusher in the D1 ranks, Iolani’s Brody Bantolina, who recorded a season-high 168 rushing yards, 64 recieving yards and three TDs. The Raiders held the Na Alii offense to 225 total offensive yards and kept zeros across the scoreboard to secure the win, 21-0.
Lahainaluna will face Iolani this Thursday, 3:00 p.m. at Edward Skippa Diaz Stadium for the State Championship.
