For the Love of the Game

By Lance Tominaga, ESPN Honolulu Web Editor.

Hawaii baseball fans, there’s still time to get your tickets to the very first “For the Love of the Game Celebration,” a fundraiser for the University of Hawaii baseball program. The event is set for Sunday, Feb. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

This is a great opportunity to meet new Rainbow Warrior head baseball coach Hill and the 2022 team. There will also be great food and beverages from local companies and establishments, and both a live and silent auction.

To get you in the spirit of the event, here are some favorite quotations about the great game of baseball:

“Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good, too.” — Yogi Berra

“Playing baseball for pay – home run. Teaching kids to play the game – priceless.” – Jack Perconte

“Baseball isn’t just a game. It’s life being played out on a field – a field of dreams – on diamonds of green, where players pursuing their dreams try to be the best they can be on the grandest stage of all – where men become boys and boys become men, all speaking one universal language without uttering a single word.” – Tom Tatum

“Baseball is a good thing. Always was, always will be.” – Stephen King

“The other sports are just sports. Baseball is a love.” – Bryant Gumbel

“Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off…The right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases.” – Rick Maksian
