The ‘Iolani Raiders achieved a new standard Friday night, as they took down the Pac-5 Wolfpack 49-14 at Kozuki Stadium on senior night, allowing them to end the regular season with a perfect 9-0. This win marks the second-straight season the Raiders will finish the regular season without suffering a defeat, a pretty remarkable run for Head Coach Wendell Look and company. The first quarter saw a matter of three touchdowns, all not coming from the offense. Pac-5 got out to an early lead with a Blade Kaululaau 92-yard interception return for a touchdown to put Pac-5 up 7-0. Before Pac-5 could even blink, Keao Kawaakoa took the ensuing kickoff 85 yards to the house, crushing any Pac-5 momentum. In the very next possession Pac-5 appeared threatening, but was halted by Reyn Shimabuku’s 76-yard scoop ‘n score to put the Raiders up 7. The first quarter was worth the price of admission alone!
It was all Raiders from that point forward, with ‘Iolani scoring three touchdowns before the break led by freshman quarterback CJ Villanueva. The frosh tossed for 3 scores through the air distributing the ball to 3 different receivers on each occasion. The aforementioned Pac-5 swiss army knife Kaululaau found the end zone again in the fourth quarter, rushing one in from two yards out. Kaululaau has been a bright spot all season, and it showed tonight rushing for 120 yards against a tough ‘Iolani defense.
‘Iolani will have to wait and see who they will square off in the playoffs as next week’s round of games determine the standings going into the D1 playoffs. Pac-5 concludes their regular season next Friday, as they take on Damien at Edward ‘Skippa’ Diaz Stadium.
