HONOLULU – First Hawaiian Bank (FHB) announced today that it will donate $50,000 to Campbell High School to support its Title IX efforts in girls’ athletics. This donation marks the beginning of FHB’s 165th anniversary celebration in which the bank will be donating a total of $1.65 million over the course of the year to local nonprofits and community groups.
“At First Hawaiian Bank we believe that providing equitable access to education, athletics and leadership opportunities is an important part of ensuring our next generation is set up for success,” said Bob Harrison, Chairman, President and CEO, First Hawaiian Bank. “To support these efforts, and to kick off our 165th anniversary celebration, we are thrilled to donate $50,000 to Campbell High’s athletic department in support of the school’s Title IX initiatives and girls’ athletics.”
NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota joined Harrison at Campbell High School to mark this occasion. Students were treated to a lunch with Mariota and local comedian Zavier Cummings, and an assembly to celebrate the special announcement that included performances from the school’s band and dance team.
Mariota shared an inspirational message with the students and emphasized why this donation was important, stating, “First Hawaiian Bank and I have a shared mission to support efforts that directly benefit Hawaii’s youth. As a girl dad and athlete, I understand the importance of ensuring equal access to education and sports opportunities for young men and young women in order to develop confidence, a solid work ethic and important leadership skills.”
As the largest school in the state, Campbell High was selected by First Hawaiian for the donation in order to directly impact as many students as possible. The funds will have a tremendous impact, shared Principal Jon Lee, adding, “we are honored to receive this generous donation from First Hawaiian Bank and appreciate their partnership in our efforts to enhance our support for student-athletes. This investment in our school and community will help us offset costs for uniforms, travel, meals, and other logistics required of our athletic department to successfully run their programming.”
