Waialua picked up its first win of the season on Thursday night, defeating Kalaheo 21-13 at home. The Bulldogs took a 21-0 lead after three quarters thanks to a pick-six by Jack Amancio and touchdown passes from Emery Abilla to Jayvie Arellano and Makoakai Fierro. Kalaheo rallied in the fourth quarter with a TD run by Matthew Pyne and passing score from Jude Weber to Benjamin White, but it wasn’t enough. Waialua’s defense came up big with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. The Bulldogs were able to run out the clock after Kalaheo’s late touchdown. It was the season opener for the Mustangs under new coach Jaymason Lee, while Waialua evened its record at 1-1.
