The Kalani girls soccer team clinched their first OIA league championship in a thrilling 3-2 win over Leilehua. Freshman Kaydee Nakamitsu, usually a forward, stepped in as goalkeeper due to an injury. Despite conceding an early goal, Kalani equalized and the game went to a penalty shootout. Nakamitsu made a crucial save in the final round, securing the victory. The team adapted to challenges, including practicing without a regulation field. It was their first PK shootout this season, but preparation paid off. Nakamitsu’s performance under pressure was praised, and Kalani now advances to the state championships undefeated since December 28.
