In a season-opening showdown between two of Hawaii’s top prep football teams, top-ranked Kahuku rallied from a 13-point deficit to secure a narrow 14-13 victory over No. 4 Saint Louis at Carleton E. Weimer Field. After a scoreless first half, Kahuku’s Troy Mariteragi threw a game-tying 25-yard touchdown pass to Noah Ah You, followed by a successful extra point from Brody Palolo that gave the Red Raiders the lead.
Saint Louis had a chance to win with a 43-yard field goal in the final seconds, but the kick missed wide right. Both teams struggled offensively, with Kahuku gaining just 24 rushing yards and Saint Louis limited to 135 passing yards. Kahuku’s defense dominated, recording 12 tackles for loss and four sacks, while Saint Louis also put up a strong defensive effort.
The game was marred by penalties, with Kahuku flagged 12 times for 129 yards. Both teams now prepare for their next non-league matchups, with Kahuku traveling to Nevada to face Bishop Gorman and Saint Louis set to play Mililani.
