Leilehua’s defense powered the Mules to a 38-21 win over Kailua, securing their first OIA Division I title since 2007 and fifth in program history.
In front of 2,000 fans at Farrington’s Edward “Skippa” Diaz Stadium, Leilehua capitalized on four turnovers, turning them into 21 points. Senior defensive back Chaystin Senas made two key interceptions, including a game-changing 35-yard pick-six that extended the Mules’ lead.
Running back Cameron Keeve finished with 180 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown late in the game, helping Leilehua secure the win. Quarterback Bennett Strobel added 150 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Kailua, whose last OIA title was in 2001, will face Kapaa in the state tournament. Leilehua, riding an eight-game win streak, will meet Lahainaluna in the first round.
