Memphis outlasted UConn in a wild game, thanks to hot three-point shooting and clutch free throws down the stretch.  After a heated 4th quarter, UConn sent the regulation game into overtime with the final score ending at 99 – 97.

Down 73 – 60 with six minutes to play, UConn outscored Memphis 22 to 9 to tie it on Solo Ball’s 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds left, which sent it to overtime.

PJ Carter went 6 for 6 from the line in overtime and UConn’s Hassan Diarra’s 3-point attempt as time expired was off the mark to secure the Memphis win.

Tyrese Hunter scored 17 of his 26 in the second half while PJ Haggerty had 22 before fouling out. Colby Rogers finished with 19.

UConn was led by Tarris Reed who had 22 points off the bench.

“When we first got picked to play them (UConn), I was like, ok, you know, hey, we’ll be starting off with a bang. And I just got our team prepared. I used it as motivation,” said Memphis coach Penny Hardaway.
