Micah Rapozo’s 33-yard overtime field goal lifted Kapaa to a 10-7 victory over top-seeded Konawaena, securing the Warriors’ first-ever HHSAA Division I State Championship.
Kapaa (9-2) overcame Konawaena (10-3) in a defensive battle at John Kauinana Stadium. The Wildcats, averaging 45 points per game, were held to a season-low seven points despite outgaining Kapaa 324-132.
Senior Nash Burkart’s 50-yard punt return gave Kapaa a fourth-quarter lead before Konawaena tied it with a late touchdown. The Wildcats missed two potential game-winning field goals, including one in overtime, setting the stage for Rapozo’s clincher.
Kapaa’s defense and special teams were decisive, capping a nine-game win streak and avenging last year’s semifinal loss to Konawaena.
