Punahou secured a spot in the HHSAA State Tournament semifinals with a commanding 67-53 victory over Kamehameha-Hawaii. The Buff ‘n Blue set the tone early, racing to a 25-11 first-quarter lead and maintaining control throughout the game.
Ethan Chung led Punahou with 18 points, including three three-pointers, while Zion White posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Houston Hosoda added 12 points, knocking down four threes.
Kamehameha-Hawaii fought back in the middle quarters behind Kiai Yasso’s 18 points and Kawohi Huihui’s 15 points and seven rebounds. However, a tough fourth quarter saw them score just eight points, allowing Punahou to pull away and punch their ticket to the semifinals.
Punahou will face University Lab in the semifinals today, February 22, at 5 p.m. at McKinley High School.
