The third-ranked University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team had its 10-match win streak snapped with a four-set loss to No. 5 USC in the 29th OUTRIGGER Invitational championship on Saturday. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 26-28, 25-21.
UH (19-2) struggled against USC’s Dillon Klein, who had 21 kills. Kristian Titriyski led the Warriors with 23 kills but had 12 errors. Adrien Roure added 17 kills, and middle blockers Justin Todd and Kurt Nusterer combined for 15 kills with just one error.
USC (16-2) hit .390 and outblocked UH 9.5-5.5. Jack Deuchar had 15 kills, and Sterling Foley added 12 kills, five digs, and four blocks.
Hawai’i won Set 3 28-26 but fell in Set 4 after USC’s 7-0 run.
In the earlier match, No. 12 Ball State beat No. 19 Penn State in five sets for third place. The all-tournament team included UH’s Roure and Rosenthal, USC’s Klein and Deuchar, and Ball State’s Savinski-Lynde.
Hawai’i returns to Big West play against UC San Diego on March 28-29.
