Kamehameha’s Nihoa Dunn Named Gatorade Hawaii Girls Basketball Player of the Year

Kamehameha Schools-Kapālama junior Nihoa Dunn has been honored as the 2024-25 Gatorade Hawaii Girls Basketball Player of the Year, recognizing her outstanding achievements on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. She is the fourth player from Kamehameha to earn this prestigious award.

The 6-foot forward/center led the Warriors to a dominant 29-3 season and a Division I state championship, averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds while shooting 55.1% from the field. Dunn delivered a standout performance in the title game, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to secure Kamehameha’s 40-34 victory over Iolani. She was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.

Beyond basketball, Dunn excels academically with a 3.51 weighted GPA and is active in her community, volunteering with the Hawaii Food Bank. She is also a talented musician, performing in her school’s highest-level orchestra, the Sinfonietta.

With her versatility and skill—both inside the paint and from beyond the arc—Dunn has cemented herself as one of the top players in the state. She joins an elite group of past winners, including Candace Parker and Paige Bueckers, and will look to build on her success as she enters her senior year.

Dunn also joins a distinguished list of recent Gatorade Hawaii Girls Basketball Players of the Year, including Lola Donez (2023-24, Lahainaluna High School), Laynee Torres-Kahapea (2022-23, Punahou School), Jovi Wahinekapu Lefotu (2021-22, Iolani School), and Lily Lefotu Wahinekapu (2020-21, Iolani School).
