The University of Hawaiʻi is conducting a national search for a new athletics director for UH Mānoa, with a search committee aiming to announce the hire by mid-to-late summer. The committee, led by UH Board of Regents Chair Gabriel Lee and Jack Tsui of the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation, will identify candidates to navigate the evolving collegiate sports landscape. UH President Wendy Hensel will make the final selection.
The search committee includes prominent business and community leaders and former UH student-athletes:
- Gabriel Lee—Chair, UH Board of Regents
- Jack Tsui—Chairman, Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation
- Peter Ho—Chairman & CEO, Bank of Hawaii
- Tita Ahuna—Former UH Women’s Volleyball Player, Punahou School Athletic Director
- Artie Wilson—Former UH Men’s Basketball Player, Spectrum Sports Analyst, Founder, Artie Wilson & Associates
- Michele Nagamine—UH Women’s Soccer Coach
- Susan Eichor—CEO, aio
- James Tokioka—Director, Hawaiʻi Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism
- Scott Sinnett—Faculty Athletic Representative, UH Mānoa
- Leslie Campaniano—Chair, ʻAhahui Koa Ānuenue; Member, Hawaiʻi Bowl Executive Committee
An ex officio advisory group of UH Manoa student-athletes and staff will also be named soon and will have the opportunity to meet with finalists to provide input on the selection.
Parker Executive Search is handling the process, starting with community listening sessions in March and April to shape the job description and candidate profile. UH Mānoa’s athletics program includes 21 NCAA Division I teams and 450 student-athletes, with the school joining the Mountain West Conference in 2026. The new AD will replace Craig Angelos, who left in December 2024, with Lois Manin serving as acting AD.
I am happy to announce that we are moving forward with the @HawaiiAthletics Director search! Mahalo to everyone who has agreed to serve on the search committee—I truly appreciate your time and commitment. https://t.co/zqM8AkObVt
