The Ke Aupuni Hawai‘i U19 Boys recently returned from their 2025 Aotearoa Basketball Tour, where they faced some of New Zealand’s top high school and Māori teams in a grueling five-game, six-day stretch. More than just a competition, the trip became an unforgettable experience of cultural exchange, camaraderie, and personal growth.
Despite being mostly 16- and 17-year-olds, the young squad proved they could compete at a high level, finishing with an impressive 4-1 record. In each of their victories, they surpassed the 100-point mark, showcasing their speed, skill, and teamwork.
Beyond the court, the team embraced the rich culture of Aotearoa, engaging with Māori and Polynesian communities and discovering the deep connections they share through language, song, food, and faith. Throughout the tour, the boys were recognized not only for their talent but also for their respect, sportsmanship, and the positive energy they brought to every game and interaction.
From the competition to the friendships formed along the way, the journey was a testament to the power of sports in bringing people together. The team returns home grateful for the game that continues to create new experiences, opportunities, and lifelong connections.
