Sterling Carvalho, who guided Kahuku to three consecutive Open Division state titles from 2021 to 2023, is out as head coach, as first reported by Billy Hull of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Carvalho posted a 59-18 record over six seasons and led the Red Raiders to 32 straight wins against Hawaii opponents starting in 2021. He also scheduled top national matchups, including Kahuku’s historic win over defending national champion St. John Bosco (Calif.) in 2023.
In a letter to parents of student-athletes, Principal Donna Lindsey wrote: “Coach Sterling Carvalho will no longer be serving as head coach of the KHS Football Program. Plans are in place to ensure continued support and stability for our student-athletes and the Football Program. An interim head coach will be assigned while we begin the process of selecting a new head coach.”
