Moanalua Defense Leads the Way in Inaugural OIA Girls Flag Football Championship Win

Moanalua completed a perfect season Thursday night with a dominant 25-6 victory over Mililani to win the first-ever OIA Division I Girls Flag Football Championship at John Kauinana Stadium.

Behind a relentless defensive effort, the Lady Nā Menehune held Mililani to just 90 total yards and forced five interceptions. Freshman standout Lofa Simanu delivered a huge performance with three interceptions, including a 35-yard pick-six, and added seven receptions for 70 yards.

Defensive specialist Kaia Borje-Peeples made a major impact with three sacks, consistently pressuring the quarterback and keeping Mililani’s offense off rhythm.

Offensively, quarterback Zaira Sugui threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns, all caught by Jodie Keo. Sugui also added an interception on defense, helping Moanalua maintain control throughout the game.

Mililani avoided the shutout with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Brooke Kurasaki to Nahealani Choy Foo, but struggled overall, completing just 4 of 16 passes for 54 yards and five turnovers.

The championship game followed a delay to the third-place matchup between Campbell and Nanakuli due to a traffic incident. That game, which was postponed at halftime due to lightning with Campbell leading 6-0, will resume Monday at 5 p.m. at Campbell.
