San Diego State shortstop Quinn Waiki was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week following a standout performance in the Aztecs’ series win at Boise State. The Hilo native and Campbell High School alum helped SDSU bounce back from a series-opening loss with back-to-back wins, including a 10-8 victory on Friday night where she launched two home runs.
Waiki started all three games at shortstop, hitting .375 with four RBIs, four runs scored, and a 1.569 OPS. She became the first Aztec this season with a multi-homer game, going deep twice on Friday to spark the offense.
For the season, the freshman has been a consistent force on both sides of the ball, showcasing her bat and glove in key conference matchups. Waiki is the first SDSU position player to earn Freshman of the Week honors since 2022.
The Aztecs (29-15, 13-6 MW) return home this weekend for a two-game series against nationally ranked Arizona.
