October 2, 1987. Head Coach Dave Shoji had Hawai`i off to an unblemished 9-0 record and the Rainbow Wahine had lost only one set on the season so far. The first road trip of the year took the Bows to Fullerton, California. Against Cal State Fullerton, UH would set a program record that still stands to this day! In the 3-set win over the Titans, Hawai`i would give up just six total points. Remember, it was still sideout scoring. Set scores of the match: 15-0, 15-3, 15-3. But the real story of the night was just how successful the offense was. The Rainbow Wahine would go on to set the program record by hitting an astounding .657 on the evening. 49 kills on 70 swings, with just three…yes three hitting errors. This match for Hawai`i was the start of playing 9-matches over a 9-day span, all on the mainland.
