ESPN Honolulu’s Cole Mausolf joined KHON2’s Sam Spangler this week to preview one of the most anticipated sporting events of the season — the inaugural Hawai‘i Pacific Health ESPN Honolulu Open presented by HMSA. Set to take place Thursday through Sunday at the Hawai‘i Convention Center, this premier pickleball tournament promises a weekend full of elite competition, community fun, and health-focused activities.
The event will feature over 1,000 participants, including 50 corporate teams and 55 teams from 22 local companies competing in the Corporate Cup on Thursday and Friday — a celebration of local pride, teamwork, and friendly rivalry.
Attendees can look forward to more than just matches. The weekend will be packed with:
- Free pickleball workshops for beginners
- Pro clinics with pickleball stars Morgan Evans, Max Freeman, and Jessie Irvine
- Exhibition matches and live musical performances
- A vibrant product and health expo
Hawai‘i Pacific Health, the event’s title sponsor, will host a dedicated Health Expo spotlighting four key areas: heart, bone and joint, women’s health, and cancer care. Over 100 HPH volunteers will be on hand to staff the medical tent and assist with the expo. A highlight of the weekend includes a free skin cancer screening on Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., open to all attendees.
HMSA will also be on-site with a booth featuring fun, interactive activities and wellness resources, with representatives available to answer questions and offer guidance on health and well-being.
The action peaks on Championship Sunday (April 13), with the Men’s Pro, Women’s Pro, and Mixed Pro final matches simulcast live on KHON2 and KHII, and streamed on KHON’s website and YouTube channel from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m..
This community-driven event also gives back: a portion of proceeds will benefit Hui Mahi‘ai ‘Āina, a Waimānalo-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting the houseless community through resources, education, and opportunities for self-sufficiency.
Don’t forget to visit the ESPN Honolulu booth to pick up limited-edition @bloquv x ESPN Honolulu shirts, available exclusively during the event!
