No free drop after Thomas’ shot stops near drain

On the par-4, 385-yard fourth hole Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Open, Justin Thomas’ tee shot stopped a couple of inches from a drain, but he was denied a free drop by a USGA rules official in Brookline, Massachusetts.

San Diego third baseman Manny Machado left the Padres’ game against the Rockies in Colorado on Sunday afternoon after his left ankle appeared to turn awkwardly while he was running to first base in the top of the first inning.

Injured Burakovsky not flying with Avs to Tampa

Avalanche forward Andre Burakovsky is staying back in Denver for at least one more day to be evaluated for an injury. Burakovsky has not been ruled out for Monday’s Game 3.
